International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers/IBEW 134: ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS’ ASSOCIATION OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO/ECA
A longstanding partnership between INTM and the Electrical Construction industry helps IBEW 134 Journeyman Electricians continue their education and obtain the Bachelor of Industrial Technology and Management (BINTM) at Illinois Institute of Technology.
The partnership provides an educational pathway for IBEW 134 members who have graduated from the IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (IN-TECH) in Alsip, Illinois, and wish to earn a bachelor’s degree that will prepare them for managerial positions in industry. Those who obtain an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Electrical Construction Technology from Richard J. Daley College (City Colleges of Chicago), may qualify to transfer to Illinois Tech to pursue a bachelor’s degree through two years of study.
This opportunity is offered by The Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Trust (EJATT) with support from the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) of the City of Chicago and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 134.

Students study a broad range of topics to acquaint them with applied technologies and enhance their decision-making and leadership skills. IBEW 134 students are encouraged to pursue INTM’s specialization in Industrial Facilities, which focuses on construction technology, project management, construction estimating, facilities management, sustainable operations, and contract administration. IBEW/NECA TUITION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM (INTRP)
To further encourage IBEW 134 members to pursue management positions within the industry, the IBEW/NECA Tuition Reimbursement Program (INTRP) was established to provide financial assistance towards completion of the BINTM degree. INTRP provides up to $6000 in tuition assistance for four to five courses per year. An application is required to confirm eligibility and a request for reimbursement must be submitted at the start of each semester. ILLINOIS TECH STUDENT CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION (NECA)
The Illinois Tech Student Chapter of NECA provides a direct link for interactions and opportunities between The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) of the City of Chicago, and students majoring in fields related to the electrical construction industry. NECA is the “voice of the electrical construction industry” and serves to advance the industry through advocacy, education, research and standards development, with 131 local chapters throughout the United States. ECA is a construction trade organization that provides business and labor relations services to over 1000 electrical contractors in Chicago and Cook County.
Student members may come from various disciplines including Industrial Technology and Management, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Electrical Engineering. The NECA Student Chapter at Illinois Tech helps students understand how ECA and its affiliates operate in Chicago, network with industry professionals, participate in presentations on issues pertinent to the industry, and learn about ECA internships and national competitions.
