Stephens Reacts to Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director’s ResignationChicago

State Representative Brad Stephens (R-Chicago) released the following statement after learning of Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Linda Chapa LaVia’s resignation:

“In the LaSalle Veterans’ Home, there were over three dozen COVID deaths, and the public recently learned of a weeklong wait for some to get basic toiletries. It is our duty to ensure our heroes receive the first-class treatment they deserve. Many of them put their life on the line for our freedom and deserve to be treated much better than what is being done.”

“I pledge to work with Acting Director Major General Peter Nezamis, as well as my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, to find the breakdowns in protocol that occurred in the Veterans’ Home. More importantly, we need to work bipartisanly to put policies in place to protect Veterans from future outbreaks.”

State Representative Brad Stephens (R-Chicago) is a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee.
