Today marks International Firefighters Day, a day we remember and honor our community’s firefighters who protect us, as well as those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
In 2021, Illinois lost five firefighters: Mehdi Mourad of the Wabash Fire Protection District (End of Watch: June 27th, 2021); Michael R. Pickering of the Chicago Fire Department (EOW: October 8th, 2021); Scott Williams of the Argonne National Laboratory Fire Department (EOW: November 21st, 2021); Garrett E. Ramos of the Sterling Fire Department (EOW: December 4th, 2021); and Mashawn J. Plummer of the Chicago Fire Department (EOW: December 21st, 2021).
Today, our hearts are with the families of these fallen heroes and all firefighter families who sacrifice so much to keep our communities safe. Thank you to the brave people who wake up each day and serve with courage to protect us and our homes.
