SPRINGFIELD – On Tuesday, House Assistant Minority Leader Brad Stephens (R-Rosemont) welcomed Vice President of Brand Marketing for SpotHero Dr. Karen Bartuch and Tony’s Italian Deli & Subs Co-Founder and Owner Maria Dalmazio to Springfield on Tuesday for a women’s brunch that honored the contributions of emerging female leaders throughout the state.
“The 20th District is so fortunate to have leaders like Karen and Maria in our communities,” said Leader Stephens. “Not only do they provide a tremendous example, they make an enduring impact for our neighborhoods and state. It’s an absolute honor to recognize them in Springfield for all they do.”
Dr. Karen Bartuch has been the Vice President of Brand Marketing for SpotHero since December 2021. She previously served as a Police Officer with the Chicago Police Department for over 10 years. Following her service in first response, she founded Women’s Tactical Association to bring training to law enforcement in firearms, fitness, combat mindset, and tactics. She has also worked as the Advisory Director with PwC, Chief Customer Officer of SipScience, and Head of Brand Marketing with Amazon. She also works as an Adjunct Professor at DePaul University, where she earned her Doctorate in Business Administration in 2018 and Master’s Degree in Communications in 2010.
Maria Dalmazio is the co-founder of the famous Tony’s Italian Deli & Subs and has been the owner with her husband since 1978. This family business focuses on their rich Italian heritage and old family recipes, making it the Number One Italian deli and subs in Chicago. Following the tragic death of her son, Freddie, after a two year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and his compassionate encouragement for other children in the hospital, Maria connects with families and children with cancers and helps them during treatments, providing considerate and invaluable support during the most difficult times families can face. She is driven by helping people and children.
Karen and Maria joined other female leaders from across the state who are each taking bold steps to make Illinois a better place to live and work. In addition to the recognition brunch, the group participated in a discussion about what issues are important for Illinois women, and how the General Assembly can create policy that reflects their priorities.
The contributions of these women were further recognized by House Republican Leader Tony McCombie (Savanna) in a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives.
