Chicagoland residents are invited to take the first step toward a career in transportation by attending the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) Career Fair this Friday at Malcom X College. This event is the latest in ongoing, aggressive recruiting efforts to hire Bus Operators and Bus Mechanics and provide customers with more reliable service.
“We’re making tremendous progress in strengthening our workforce having hired more than 600 new bus operators and welcoming more than 1,200 total new hires so far this year, but we’re not finished yet and need more dedicated workers committed to keeping the City of Chicago moving,” said CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr. “There’s no better time to join the CTA — more than just a job, CTA is an opportunity for career advancement and to help get your foot in the door, we’re offering competitive pay and incredible benefits, including paid training, as well as hiring and retention incentives.”
Applicants for Bus Operator and Bus Mechanic positions will enjoy newly increased competitive pay – starting hourly wages of $28.65 for Bus Operators and $41.90 for Bus Mechanics– as well as excellent health benefits, a pension, and opportunities for advancement. Plus, there’s a hiring bonus of $1,000! The bonus will appear on the first paycheck and employees must remain at CTA for one year.
Applicants who possess excellent customer service skills, a willingness to earn a commercial driver’s license and are interested in seeking employment with options for a rewarding career in the transportation industry are strongly encouraged to attend:

Since 2022, the CTA has hosted more than a dozen job fairs – both virtual and in-person. New Operators and Mechanics will help the agency address an industry-wide worker shortage, the main contributing factor to CTA’s current service challenges.
