Rep. Stephens E-News Update – April 2025

Women to Watch

Last week, I had the pleasure of welcoming Nina Kremidas and Elizabeth Murray-Belcaster to the Women to Watch event in Springfield! The event brought together notable women from across the state who enjoyed a breakfast, a tour of the Capitol, a networking lunch, and an information seminar presented by other women leaders.

Women to Watch was an incredible event that highlighted the talents, sacrifices, and accomplishments of women such as Liz and Nina, who spend each day working to improve the lives of our veterans, seniors, and all Illinoisans. Both of these remarkable women are invaluable contributors within their respective fields, and I am grateful that they were recognized accordingly.

Nina Kremidas is the Director of Activities at Ascension Living Resurrection Village, a retirement living campus that offers both independent and assisted living in Chicago’s Norwood Park community. Elizabeth Murray-Belcaster is the President of EMB Consultants, specializing in workforce development and training programs for military veterans. Elizabeth is also the co-founder of the Northwest Side Irish Parade.

It was a privilege to have Nina Kremidas and Elizabeth Murray-Belcaster join us for the Women to Watch event in Springfield. Liz and Nina are truly “women to watch” in our community, working hard to improve the lives of others in their own unique ways.

Nina and Elizabeth were two of nearly 50 women from across Illinois who were in attendance for this year’s Women to Watch event. The positive impacts each of these women has had on their communities were honored at the breakfast by House Minority Leader Tony McCombie.

Ridgewood High School Q&A

Much has been going on back in the 20th District during this April, though my favorite event was undoubtedly hosting a Q&A session with students from Mrs. Nolan’s Civics class at Ridgewood High School! During their flextime, these students came to the auditorium to ask thoughtful questions, including those related to state government, its processes, and how it affects their communities.

It was truly an honor being able to engage with such bright and thoughtful students. The future of our legislature is in good hands!

Money Smart Event With Senator Martwick

Our office was thrilled to collaborate with Senator Martwick’s office to host a free Money Smart class for older adults and their caregivers this month! The Money Smart course, presented by Jerry Kochowicz, taught attendees how to prevent fraud, scams, and other forms of elder financial exploitation. Thank you to Jerry, Senator Martwick, and all those who attended for a successful event!

Amtrak Illinois State Legislators Tour

Our team also had a fantastic time attending the Amtrak Illinois State Legislators Tour at Chicago Union Station! We truly enjoyed hearing about the upcoming Chicago Hub Improvement Program (CHIP), which is set to enhance passenger rail services in Illinois, and tour the station, as well as the Amtrak yard. Thank you, Amtrak, for having us, and we look forward to seeing all that CHIP will bring to the region!

April 2024 Women’s Circle

Our office also had a terrific discussion at Fat Rosie’s in Rosemont with the 20th District Women’s Circle! During our time, we discussed pressing issues in Illinois and how I can help address them in Springfield. Thank you to everyone who joined us and participated. I always welcome your feedback!
