CHICAGO – State Representative Brad Stephens (R-Rosemont) is hosting a Winter Food & Accessory Drive next Saturday in Chicago. He invites residents to join him on Saturday, December 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Rep. Stephens’ district office parking lot (5515 N. East River Rd., Chicago) for this drive-thru event.
“We know as we break out our hats, gloves, space heaters, and heavy blankets what we need to prepare for the intensity of Chicago winters,” said Rep. Stephens. “With this winter predicted to be snowier, it’s imperative we turn to those who are in need and help them get the necessary supplies to stay warm and safe during these upcoming winter months. I encourage all 20th District residents who can this holiday season to give back to our community and help our neighbors in need with food or clothing insecurity.”
Participants are asked to enter the parking lot off Gregory Street. Non-perishable food and new hats, gloves, scarves, socks, and underwear will be accepted. Used items will not be accepted. All collected items will go to area food pantries and clothing services.
Suggested food items include cereal, pancake mix, syrup, coffee, crackers, juice, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, pudding/jell-o, rice, chili, beef stew, condiments, jelly, oil, peanut butter, and pasta or spaghetti sauce.
In 2020, 846 people were homeless on a given night in Cook County, according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, most of Illinois will see wetter-than-average weather conditions this winter, and more precipitation could mean more snow, depending on the temperatures.
Individuals with questions on this event can call Rep. Stephens’ office at (773) 444-0611 at any time for more information.
