CHICAGO – In the month leading up to the 21st memorial of 9/11, State Representative Brad Stephens (R-Rosemont) is launching a 20th District 9/11 Hero Stories Series. This series invites residents of the 20th District or around the 20th District to submit their stories of where they were, what they remember, and how they felt on September 11th, 2001.
“As the generation born after 9/11 enters their twenties, it’s so important we share our stories from that day to continually remind Americans of why we never forget September 11th,” said Rep. Stephens. “Heroes like American Airlines Flight 11 Flight Attendant Betty Ong, FDNY Chief Joseph Pfeifer, and Chicago Police Officer Jim Maloney who did what they could that fateful day and in the aftermath must never be forgotten. Many people were heroes that day, whether they drove to Manhattan, donated blood, or called to check on someone with connections to New York or the Pentagon. We also repeat these stories to keep in our hearts the people whose lives were stolen and their loved ones who grieve.”
Individuals interested in sharing their story can visit here for more information on how to submit. Stories are accepted in an online form or via email to stephens@ilhousegop.org and can be in written, audio, or video format. Stories can also include whatever the storyteller is comfortable sharing. All submissions will be posted on Rep. Stephens’ website and his Facebook page.
Submissions will be accepted from all—first responders, civilians, armed forces, or people who remember what happened and those submitting will be notified via email before the story is published. Stories will begin publishing at the beginning of September.
“If you are comfortable, please share your experience from that day,” Rep. Stephens continued. “We must keep these stories alive and never, ever forget September 11th.”
